Within three months after starting the project, Ph.D. students need to draft an individual Training and Supervision Plan, in accordance with the CAO for Dutch Universities (article 15.21). The Training and Supervision Plan is written in consultation with the promotor(s), the daily supervisor(s), and the Ph.D. student, and needs to be approved by the scientific director of the Research Institute. The Training and Supervision Plan serves as a guideline for the entire project and can be used as a basis for one's annual progress interviews and regular job evaluation interviews.

The Training and Supervision Plan can be considered as a working document with a binding character for all persons involved. It consists of:

Ad. Training

Ad. Work plan

Ad. Publication plan

Promotor(s) and daily supervisor(s) are requested to make sure that the Training and Supervision Plan is sent to the scientific director of the Research Institute within three months after the start of the project. Because the Training and Supervision Plan needs to be signed by the Ph.D. student and his/her supervisors, it cannot be sent by e-mail.

The last few years, P&H has welcomed different types of Ph.D. students besides the 'regular' "Assistenten in Opleiding" (AIO's), namely junior researchers and external Ph.D. students. Different forms are used for these different types of Ph.D. students (see below). Please take care to fill out the form appropriate for your appointment or, when you are not sure, ask Lizet Hoekert or Henriët van Middendorp for advice on which form needs to be filled out by you.

In a number of cases, your local faculty requests a Training and Supervision Plan as well. Please check whether the same issues are addressed in this plan than in the plan that we request. If the same points are addressed, it will be sufficient to send P&H a copy of this plan; if aspects are missing, please add these as an appendix and send that to P&H.

For further information about and assistance with the drafting of the Training and Supervision Plan/Training Inventory Form, you can contact Henriët van Middendorp.

Abridged Training and Supervision Plan for junior researchers: for Ph.D. students who have limited time to work on their project (e.g., 2 or 3 years)

Training Inventory Form for external Ph.D. students ("buitenpromovendi"): for Ph.D. students who work most of their time on another task besides research (e.g., therapy) and in a setting outside of the university
